Over 2200 competitors signed up for the race, and 2189 exited the water.  Three of them are JFT2 members, competing in their first Ironman.   Jason Popp, Char Popp and Michael Horntvedt are already on their bikes after excellent swims.  We are tracking their results on the IronmanLive site, as well as from on the scene reports from Jill and Mark.  Mark was interviewed this morning by KXLY channel 4, in Coeur d'Alene, giving a big shout out for his coach and team mates.

Jason laying it down on the bike at CdA.  Tom Price loaned these wheels to Jason.  His last words were "Those wheels have never gone over 10 hours."   No pressure, Jason.

CHAR has crossed the line in an awesome sub-14 finish!  Her 5:10 run gave her a 13:52 finish!  The team is done, completing the day with sub 14, sub 13 and sub 12 first time finishes!

JASON IS IN!  What a finish, coming in around 12:19.  Athlete updates have slowed WAAAAAY down; Michael's run split not yet updated.

MICHAEL IS DONE... around 11:40!!!

ALL THREE RACERS RUNNING STRONG!  The on-the-scene report from our Team JFT2 correspondants is that the team is running well, with bigs smiles on all three faces.  Both Michael and Jason have passed the half-way point on the run.  Michael seems to be headed toward a sub 11:30 finish, and Jason could break 12:30.  Of course, anything can happen in the last part of the run.  Both runners pointed to the same place on the side of their stomaches as "problem areas", but they were pushing through.  This is exciting!

MICHAEL IS OFF THE BIKE!  Jill and Mark just watched him run by as she was talking to me on the phone, trying to get his splits.  Thus, she missed getting the picture!  Michael is racing exactly according to plan after clocking a nice 5:47 bike split.  JASON IS ON THE RUN!  Jason has now cleared T2 after finishing strong on the bike with a 6:09 split.  And CHAR IS RUNNING NOW!  After pulling in a sub-seven bike split and screaming through T2, Char is now on the run course.

So far, so good for the Team JFT2 racers.  Michael and Jason are enjoying post-race refreshments, and Char is running strong.

Weather Report from the course

RACETIME: 02:08

Race spotters indicate that there is a 10-15 MPH wind out on the bike course coming from the south and it is warming up from the cooler temperature here at the swim start… maybe 55F.   Paula Newby-Frasier considers today "perfect race conditions".  Winds are expected to die down as the day goes on, and today's highs may be in the 70s.  Prior to the race the winds were significant.  For a safety measure, the race director got on the loadspeaker and gave the athletes the option of opting out of the swim, and just competing in a non-qualifying duathlon.  Somewhere between 50-100 athletes took this option.
