Early indications are that over 2000 participants showed up to race at the Seafair Sprint triathlon on Sunday, July 15. It was a great showing for team JFT2, with eight Age Group participants and five entrants in the kids’ race. Despite a few unfortunate mishaps on the bike leg, the team managed to capture four top ten finishes, including two Age Group wins, in an extremely competitive field. Thanks once again to Michael Horntvedt for all the great photos!

Jessica Hayden-Spear had a truly outstanding day, winning a tough age group with her 1:15:06 time. Our other Jessica, Ms. Cutler, went out in the elite wave and finished 12th, with a time of 1:15:40.
Tina Hall and Shannon Callies, for the second week in a row, had top 10 finishes in a tough and crowded age group. Tina came in 5th with her time of 1:17:11. Shannon was not far behind, finishing 7th with a 1:17:52. She posted a very strong run after losing some time, and some skin and blood, from a crash as she was broadsided at the final corner of the bike.
Blake Ilstrup, Jeff Hough and Mark Moody also had strong races. Blake finished with a 1:20. Jeff dropped into town from his home in Colorado for the race and finished with a very strong run to cap a 1:23 performance. Mark had a great swim, then suffered three flats on the bike. Undaunted, he put on an incredible 22:57 run to Bring It for the team.
Jill also had a good race, taking first in the AG and 10th overall with her time of 1:10:34.
The kids' event was a huge success, with over 250 children participating in three different waves. Jason Cowan put on a very strong run to capture first in his AG and fourth overall. Stephen Fry took 3rd in this AG and 7th overall. Competing in their first triathlons were Savannah Hortvedt and Blake and Brandon Hall, and they all did awesome.
It turned out to be a fantastic day for a race. The winds did seem to pick up throughout the morning, and there was a very strong cross wind on the floating bridge. We had a lot of Team JFT2 supporter show up as well, and many of us gathered for a picnic in Seward Park after the race.

Sharon Istrup had her own triathlon, keeping track of these three while trying to watch and film the race.

Great to see Hamish at the race!
